JetBlue Coming to Charleston

Discount airline will offer three flights daily starting in February.

In February, Charleston will become the first airport in South Carolina with daily flights from discount air carrier JetBlue.

The airline announced today it will service Charleston International Airport with twice daily nonstop service to New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport and one daily flight to Boston's Logan Field beginning Feb. 28.

JetBlue's flights from Charleston will be operated with its 100-seat Embraer E190 fleet. The airline boasts the most leg room in the skies as well as a free first checked bag and 36 free TV channels.

The Charleston Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, Charleston County Aviation Authority and Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce offered a combined $1-million incentive package to attract the airline, according to the Post and Courier.

The addition brings Charleston International Airport's total number of airlines to six. The airport is serviced by American, Delta, Southwest, United and U.S. Airways currently proivde service.

A total of 3 flights a day to the northeast. This is nothing to get all excited about. Bring on discount non stop to Orlando and we'll celebrate

it used to be that flights from Charleston only ever went to Atlanta, or occasionally to Charlotte. An oft repeated phrase by Charlestonians catching a flight was "to get to heaven or hell from Charleston you have to go through Atlanta." The word "International" in the name of our airport was mostly a joke, and it only counts because military flights from overseas use the same runways as commercial flights when landing. As a native Charlestonian the addition of any destinations to the list of places you can fly direct from Charleston is definitely a reason for excitement. One day they might even have both the A and B concourse operating at the same time at Charleston International.

I would like to see some non-stop flights from Charleston International to London and/or Paris. It is so frustrating to have to switch planes!
