Monday: Apartment fire leave 23 without shelter; Family of 7 experiences house fire.
The American Red Cross is asking for donations following two separate fires in North Charleston on Monday that left 30 residents without shelter. The first, an apartment fire, happened sometime before 7 a.m. Monday in the No. 8 building at Dorchester Village Apartments off Dorchester Road, according to the North Charleston Fire Department. The second, a house fire in 4000 block of O'Hear Ave., left a family of seven without shelter. That fire broke out around 6 p.m. Monday, according to the fire department. No one was injured in either fire, and the causes are still under investigation, according to fire department spokeswoman Bianca Sancic. Eight apartment homes in the Dorchester Village complex on Nelson Road have been damaged following a Monday morning fire, according to the North Charleston Fire Department. "Eight apartments, eight families have been displaced," said Bianca Sancic, a North Charleston Fire Department spokeswoman. "Four of the units were severely impacted and four others had significant smoke and water damage." Every apartment the eight-unit building was impacted in some way, Sancic said. The fire out sometime before 7 a.m., she said. Some residents reported hearing an explosion, according to media reports. The cause is still under investigation. Man apparently covered by dirt, found dead.
A man on a North Charleston jobsite was apparently killed when he fell in a hole and was covered by dirt, according to ABC News 4. It happed around 10 a.m., the news station reports. Co-workers reported the man missing, and police found him buried beneath dirt in freshly filled hole. The accident remains under investigation; the deceased man's name has not been released. Three men are facing several drug-related charges after the North Charleston Police Department served a search warrant on a home on Ashley Shores Drive
Two North Charleston men and a third man from Ladson are facing several drug-related charges following a search at a home on Ashley Shores Drive. North Charleston Police searched the home at 3851 Ashley Shores Drive as part of an ongoing investigation, according to a NCPD statement. They recovered 3.1 grams of marijuana, 139 grams of cocaine and 71.4 grams of cocaine base, along with items used to weigh, manufacture and distribute illegal items, and a Phoenix Arms .25 caliber handgun.
